Food Coffee for thought… Upgrade your morning coffee for a nutrient dense version…
The idea around Bulletproof coffee came from the CEO, David Asprey (www.bulletproof.com) It’s made by blending black coffee with unsalted butter and an extract of coconut oil. It’s claimed to have multiple benefits, from improving mental focus and physical performance, increasing energy and speeding up weight loss. Bulletproof coffee is becoming increasingly popular and we’ve even noticed it popping up on the menu in several cafes.
The coffee is a little different to your standard, long macchiato with almond milk… it is jam packed with good healthy fats. Allot of people have bad reactions to coffee, the jitters, disturbed sleep and the old afternoon crash! Bulletproof coffee is meant to slow down the caffeine rush providing a more sustained release of caffeine, thanks to the good fats.
The fun thing with this recipe is, if you are not a big coffee fan, you can use the same recipe and opt out coffee for Green Tea or Matcha!
It can seem a little daunting thinking of how many ‘good fats’ are in this little weapon. However, I want to educate you on nutrient dense VS calorie counting. My aim is to give you information and you to do your own research and trials to see what types of food fuel your body best.
Eating a diet consisting of good quality fats can curb your sugar and hunger cravings and even increase weight loss. BUT don’t take that sentence as a reason to chow down on KFC or greasy foods. I am talking good quality fats like Ghee, Grass-fed butter, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil etc. Having these in your kitchen are fantastic to cook with and consume.
If you would like me to write about this type of eating more please let me know and I will write a dedicated post to a healthy fat type diet. God I seriously hate writing the word diet!!! But you get the picture.

INGREDIENTS (*CHOOSE ORGANIC WHEN POSSIBLE)
- 1 cup Organic Coffee
- 1-2 tablespoons of Brain Octane™ (you can also use Cold Pressed Coconut Oil)
- 2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee
Optional
- Cinnamon
- Bee Pollen
- Maca Powder
- Collagen Powder
METHOD
Brew 1 cup of coffee.
Add in 1-2 tablespoons of Brain Octane™ or Coconut Oil to the hot coffee (It’s STRONG – start with 1 tsp. and work up over several days).
Add 1-2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee.
Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it is frothy like a foamy latte.
